Interchange service and programs
Interchange SA is a unique service which works in partnership with volunteers to provide a range of flexible community based respite options. The emphasis of each of the interchange programs is the mutual benefit for volunteers, individuals with disabilities and their families. This ensures service provision which is both philosophically sound and cost effective.
InterchangeSA curently provides approximately 65,000 hours of support to 290 children, young people and their families. There are currently three respite programs provided through Interchange in the metropolitan region.
Host Program
Volunteers provide regular weekend, day or overnight care for a child with a disability. The care is usually provided in the volunteer's home. Together volunteer host families and children participate in a range of typical community based activities.
Teen Companion Program
Volunteers provide regular support and encouragement to people with disabilities to explore opportunities for fun, friendship and participation in genuine community experiences.
Volunteers can participate as a regular companion to an individual, in small "friendship" groups or supporting an individual to participate in a specific community based activity, ie a cricket team or art group.
Great Break Program
This program is provided primarily through paid staff with the support of Volunteers and provide a variety of activities including; a range of camping opportunities, inclusive sport and recreation programs.
Great Break Camps
Includes Outback camping in tents, Canoe adventures on the Murray and dormitory style camping in various locations in the outer metro area.
Great Break Inclusive Sport and Recreation
Supports individuals participation in a range of community based activities including, Tri-State Games athletics competition, , Life Saving Clubs, Cricket Teams, Long distance and orienteering Canoe competitions.
Friendship Groups
Facilities small groups of friends to meet and participate in local community activities.
